Daily TV News - September 21st 2010

I'm still at work waiting for Mrs. Media Room to finish her day, so I've used the time to catch up on a couple of shows. Just finished Chase from last night, ugh, it was almost too painful to finish. You go from watching intelligent shows like Rubicon and even The Event to watching Chase and you can feel your brain slow down.

Let's get to the news updates of the day, kind of a slow day.

Lyle Lovett has signed on to do a episode of Castle later this season, he'll star as Agent Darryl Shafer, a shadowy government figure who detains and interrogates Castle and Beckett about a case. He'll be appearing in this season's 9th episode.

USA Network has picked up Law and Order:Criminal Intent for it's 10th and final season. The bigger news is that they'll be bringing back actor Vincent D'Onofrio back to reprise his role that he left a few years back for health reasons.

The ratings are in from last night and it's not looking good for Lone Star and Chase already. Big numbers were brought in to watch Hawaii Five-O, Mike and Molly and The Event. How many people stick with The Event will be seen. From what I've been reading today, fans have some seriously mixed reviews to the hyped NBC conspiracy thriller. Personally I need to watch it again, wasn't in the best viewing mode to watch it.

This news came in yesterday but I can't remember if I blogged about it or not. Showtime has already renewed Weeds and The Big C. In what I've watched of Weeds so far this season, I'd say Weeds is back to it's funny self once again. They took a real long dark turn there for a while. The Big C, 4 episodes in and I'm loving it and I would recommend it to most, warning be told. It's subject matter can be quite heavy at times.

Speaking of early renewals, and this is early. Like after one episode early, HBO has renewed the record breaking series Boardwalk Empire after just one episode.

AMC released a killer poster for the upcoming zombie series The Walking Dead today.

A little guest spot news for Chuck fans; it was revealed today that 70's action star Lou Ferrigno will be visiting Chuck during the September 27th episode.

One last piece of guest star news, Will Forte fresh off quitting Saturday Night Live will be returning for an episode of How I Met Your Mother, he'll be once again playing Randy. A Goliath Bank Employee in which he played a few years back in season 3.

The great folks at tvsquad.com interviewed the producer of The Event and had these hints to share.

As we saw at the end of the first episode, an airplane headed for the president's Florida retreat disappeared in mid-air. Where'd it go?

"We'll start revealing things right away" in the second episode, Wauters said. "Within the first few seconds of Episode 2, you'll find out what happened to the plane."

As for Sophia and the rest of the mysterious folks she's locked up with, "you'll find out who the detainees are within the first 15 minutes" of the second episode. "There will be lots of answers and resolutions right away," Wauters added.

If you want to know even more, descriptions of the Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 episodes from the NBC press site are below.

"To Keep Us Safe," Sept. 27: "As the shockwave of the plane dissipates, President Martinez's (Blair Underwood) staff must work quickly to assess what happened and how to respond. Director of National Intelligence, Blake Sterling, (Željko Ivanek) locks down Sophia (Laura Innes) for interrogation. The conspiracy widens, engulfing FBI Agent Collier (guest star Heather McComb) and Carter (guest star D. B. Sweeney), a mercenary with questionable ties. Meanwhile, a shadowy figure, Thomas (Clifton Collins, Jr.), emerges with knowledge of the detainees and their plan. Jason Ritter, Sarah Roemer, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, and Bill Smitrovich also star. Michael Whaley, Angel Desai and Wes Ramsey guest star. Directed by Jeffrey Reiner."

"Protect Them From the Truth," Oct. 4: "President Martinez's administration unveils a tough new strategy to force Sophia to reveal the detainees' plan, putting into play a new detainee, Maya (guest star Clea DuVall). Elsewhere, we learn that Vicky (Taylor Cole) and Carter are in possession of a crucial hostage. FBI Agent Collier's suspicion grows deeper. Jason Ritter, Sarah Roemer, Željko Ivanek, Clifton Collins, Jr., Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, and Bill Smitrovich also star. Michael Whaley, Omid Abtahi and Wes Ramsey guest star. Directed by Jeffrey Reiner."

That's all I've got for today, like I said; kinda slow. Mostly a lot of chatter about The Event from last night.
