Music 365 - Day Six - Atoms for Peace

So I'm driving to work the other day listening to channel 36 on my Sirius Radio, the Alternative Station and on comes on this band, Atoms for Peace.  I'm listening to it for a couple minutes and I say, "Wow, that sounds a lot like Thom Yorke".  They sound just like Radiohead, who is this?  So Mrs. Media Room jumps on her Blackberry to find out because I have to know and I have to remember it so I can look into it later. Turns out Mr. Yorke and Flea from Chill Peppers formed this Supergroup.  I had no idea.

I was sad to see that they didn't have an album yet, but thankfully the album Amok gets released in a few short weeks. February 25th to be exact.  I'm a big fan of Radiohead so I'm kind of embarassed that I didn't know about this project.  But I felt the need to share this great tune forward.

Check out the single Judge, Jury and Executioner and enjoy it.

So after reading this I had to look into what Radiohead was doing because it seems like forever since they released anything, it has been a while, King of Limbs was released in 2011.  Everything on the net points to Radiohead releasing something this year.  Fingers Crossed.

Last Night in the Media Room - January 30th

So last night, we got home at a decent hour and after a few days of watching some Sherlock. Some time spent clearing off the PVR was in order.

We were able to get home at 7:02 and I was able to record the Sportsnet Jays Up Close special on the Winter Tour and I'm so happy I did. Great stuff all around. Hilarious to see these guys way out of their element in the frozen tundra that this country has to offer. Can't wait for the balls season to start.

All of my tv sites and twitter was a flutter from New Girl from the night before so I knew we had to get that in. What a fantastic episode. Great laughs through out and one hell of an ending.

Next up was Raising Hope and the big wedding. I must say, now that they've got married, I really don't think I need to watch another episode here. The second episode that aired I found horrible and I barely even laughed. If I remember correctly, I just cut it with 10 minutes left. Done with this one.

I don't know how we held out so long, but next was The Following and I'm loving this show. How far does the conspiracy go? Who else and how many are involved in his master plan? I loved the second episode even more than the first. If you haven't watched this yet, find a way to catch up. This doesn't feel like any Network Show I've watched before, it feels more FX or AMC. Great stuff here that you shouldn't be missing folks.

Then we had the premiere episode of The Americans, funny story I didn't realize this was 90 minutes and when we did, we had to turn it off because it was getting late and we only watched the first 50 minutes. What I saw I liked, some great acting performances all around and loads of potential. Nice and dark and that's what FX does best. I did too much following along on twitter for this one and apparently the last 20 minutes are pretty epic. That was thing, it didn't feel like a pilot episode. It wasn't trying too hard to convince me just how awesome this is. It just was.

Last Night in the Media Room - January 29th

I kind of like the format for the post I did yesterday, so I thought I'd give it another whirl for last night.

Starting off, last night was a bit of a shit show.  The weather was bad and that screwed things up royally, ended up getting back to the media room two hours later than I had expected which means I wasn't able to watch any more episodes of Clone Wars.

So Mrs. Media Room and I finished watching the last episode of Sherlock season one.  But that was broken up with flight plans.  You see, I'm a Blue Jays fan.  A fan enough where again this year we're heading down to Florida in March to catch some spring training games.  Well, we're trying to head down.  We've got tickets to some of the games we want to catch, but sadly we don't have any plane tickets yet.  We're finding the whole thing quite frustrating at this point really.  Such horrible flight times are left. Ugh.

So we finished off season one of Sherlock and it really does end with quite a bang.  I can't recommend this series enough to each and every one of you that might visit this blog.

Due to the weather I decided to turn in a bit earlier than normal.  So I thought I'd post in some great tweets that I came across during the evening's viewing time.

Another quiet night as the pvr recorded a bit more for future viewing.  Happy Endings Double Episode, Raising Hope, Pioneers of Television on PBS and what I've been told and told is supposed to be an epic episode of New Girl.

Hopefully we get a bit back to normal on Wednesday night.

Last Night in the Media Room - January 28th

I haven't posted in quite some time now and I felt like writing something. This might turn into something, we'll see how it goes. Nothing overly complicated. Just a "Hey, what did we watch last night kind of thing."

Last night we started a bit late because Mrs. Media Room goes line dancing on Monday nights so we weren't able to get much in. While she was dance dance dancing away I able to get in 3 or 4 more episodes of Clone Wars Season One in. I've been told for years that this is a show I need to watch. I decided to start craming in episodes where I can to catch up. Because you know, I'm only watching around 53 other shows at the moment, why not throw another one on there. Yes, I did count and I'm around 53 actual shows I'm watching right now. That's kinda gross.

So last night, it didn't help that so much on last night was repeats either, actually maybe it did help. Damn I watch a lot of television. We only recorded Dragons' Den and I'm not sure if we've seen the episode yet or not. Then we recorded The Following and Deception as well. Not sure how much longer we'll record Deception as I'm sensing a cancellation soon.

Last week I was off because I was having major back issues so I finally jumped on the Sherlock train and watched the BBC version with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. LOVED IT! Cumberbatch is a fantastic Sherlock and shouldn't be missed. While I do enjoy the CBS version Elementary, I really liked this version much more. Lucy Liu doesn't bother me in Elementary like I thought she would, but after watching the BBC version. I can't help but notice that she really doesn't do a hell of a lot in helping solve the crimes.

So, on my sick day I blasted through the 3 episodes of Season 1, doesn't sound like a lot, but they are 90 minutes long. So now Mrs. Media Room is catching up. She's now just as hooked and can't wait to watch the next episode. I re-watched the first episode again because I just loved the case and the introduction to Sherlock and his skills. So she took up the Media Room last night in catch up mode.

I was upstairs in the Toy Room/Office reading some new Dominion Cards from the latest expansion that I got for Christmas. I also realized that I had an expansion for the Catan Card Game that I haven't even opened yet. How does that happen? Yep, Board Gamer.

Once I was back in that world. Did quite a bit of surfing on Board Game sites, getting prices on the stuff I'd like to get. So much great gaming out there. Never enough money or time.

So all and all, a very quiet night in the Media Room. Can't wait to get back at it and see what tonight will bring us.

Good night all.  It's been an interesting show.

Golden Globes 2012 Live Blog - Second Hour

9:11 - Some seriously funny right there. House of Lies rules. The Office used to be funny!  Schmidt!!  Wow. It would appear I really need to watch Game Change.

9:13 - I don't like the fact the Jamie Foxx is introducing his own movie. Doooouchy.

9:15 - "How lucky am I" Jonah Hills mind.  Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture is up.  Anne Hathaway wins it for Les Mis. Mrs. Media Room is very excited once again.

9:22 - And we're back with a couple of people that apparently can't show any emotion.Best Screenplay is up with Motion Pictures.  Quentin Tarantino wins for Django.  Let's get the music playing. It's dragging on.

9:25 - Somebody from my movie of actors with great voices.  Jeremy Irons.  Salmon Fishing on the Yemen gets it's preview.

9:27 - Best Actor in a Comedy Series.  Don Cheadle wins it for the fantastic House of Lies.

9:30 - There it is. The PVR has caught up to the show and I've just heard the words we all fear when using a pVR. We're live. Ugh.  No more fast forwarding bad speeches and the super long commercials.

9:33 - Woah.  1986 called and they want their presenters back.  Loved the bit about not being able to speak English.  Did anyone see Copland. No, not Copland.  I'm thinking of another movie.  The girl from Josie and the Pussycats. The dude from the Wrestler who's name escapes me. Mickey Rourke! what Sly movie was that?!?!? Amour wins! I got one of the tricky categories in our game!

9:37 - Slow down on the Self Tanner Lea Michelle!  Homeland wins yet another. This time Claire Danes.  Bit of a douchey speech if you ask me.  I've been on this stage since I was 15. Cough, douchey.

9:40 - Mrs. Media Room just tried to fast forward and quickly realized, we're live.Hahahaa.

9:43 - Ahhh, I miss you Rescue Me.

9:44 - Sasha Cohen tries to lighten up the crowd a bit.  Best Animated Feature is up.  So he was introducing the cartoon category? Wow. Bad choice.  Upskirt Joke? Really?  Brave wins it.

9:48 - Sabretooth introduces Life of Pi.

9:50 - Jason Bateman rocks as always.  Best Actress in a Comedy Series is up.  Poehler looked awesome on Clooneys lap and very comfortable.  Lena Dunham wins it for Girls.

9:53 - Next up is the Demille Award so I'll take a break here.

Golden Globes 2012 Live Blog - First Hour

Starting off a bit late tonight as we were cramming in Zero Dark Thirty.

I've been looking forward to seeing what the two super comics would be bringing to the table tonight and right out of the gate they've been fantastic.  Mrs. Media Room would like me to add how stunning Amy Poehler is looking this evening, eat your heart out Mr. Will Arnett.

8:02 - It only took two minutes for our lovely hosts to make a Ricky joke.  Since hosting he's been relegated to BBC productions it seems.

8:03 - Wow. That James Cameron joke was awesome.

8:05 - Plenty of Homeland jokes, we'll see who's laughing at the end of the night, won't we Breaking Bad?

8:07 - Has Daniel Day Lewis been knighted yet? Seriously Queen what are you waiting for.

8:08 - Love Daniel Day Lewis playing along with the ET joke. That was fantastical.

8:09 - Wow. That couple would have some great looking kids.

8:10 - Best Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Motion Picture is up first tonight.

8:11 - Christoph Waltz takes it for Django Unchained. Wow. Surprise.  He was fantastic in Bastards, but I thought he was very subdued in this role.

8:13 - This seems like a strange pairing. Both are on tv and?? Supporting Actress in a Minseries, Commercial, TV Series, Made for Television Movie. Sigh. So many options.  Maggie Smith takes it. We've been on the air for a whole 13-14 minutes, so let's take a break.

8:17 - Speaking of a couple that would have very attractive kids.  Mr and Mrs Golden Globe intros. The young Mr Fox really needs to be wearing a vest like his father in Back to the Future.  Now we're on to best Mini-Series or TV Movie.  Game Change takes it.  Another chance for Hollywood to kind of make fun Palin.

8:20 - Woah, slow down. Double up awards. Best Actress in a Miniseries.  If they're going to fake nominees all night, that'll be awesome.  Julianne Moore takes it and Game Change is on a bit of a run here. Good for them.

8:23 - Mrs. Media Room makes the comment, a lot of open breasts this year.

8:24 - Catherine Zeta Jones giving us the first Drama Preview of the night, Les Miserables.

8:24:30 - Let's take another quick break, we've had a few minutes of show and that's far too much.

8:28 - My cat Cogami is sleeping at my feet and is making this very, very uncomfortable.

8:29 - Boooooring time. Hollywood Foriegn President speech time. How self important are you?

8:30 - Mental note, when the heck can we see Sin City 2?

8:30:30 - Another movie preview, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.  Did anyone under 40 see this movie?

8:31 - "Her boobies are covered up!", says Mrs. Media Room.

8:31:30 - The nights toughest category, Actor in a Dramatic TV Series.  Wow. Let's start the Homeland parade perhaps? Damien Lewis wins.

8:33 - Millions of Americans are all saying, "Woah woah woah. That guy isn't speaking English.  He's speaking Austrilian or something."

8:35 - TV series Drama, damn another tough one right after. Awkward pause for effect. Damn this category is so full of great television.  The Homeland parade keeps on growing.  Another year that Mad Men gets nothing is ok by me. HOLY SPOILER ALERT!!

8:41 - Super long commercial break. While we just got a commercial for The Following, how awesome does that show look?  Argo is up next for it's special preview time. No standing ovation?

8:42 - Now that we've seen George Clooney sitting with Mr. Afleck. I ask, where is Brad Pitt?

8:44 - Statham, you need to go back to England and make British gangster movies imo.  Best Original Score is up and that seems like an odd pair to introduce it to me. Anyone else?  Michael Danna for Life of Pi grabs the Globe.

8:47 - Double award!! We're flying now. Original Song.  I guess that's why J. Lo is there, but it still seems weak to me.  That answers my, Why the Hell is Taylor Swift there?!?!?!? I didn't read anyone eleses name except for Adele.  That's why because she's a winner!!!

8:54 - When the hell is Touch back on the air? Actor in a Miniseries. Kevin Costner on the television alert! Mrs. Media Room is screaming.  The fake nominee actually got Alba to smile.  Ok, I was wrong. NOW Mrs. Media Room is screaming.

8:58 - An actual President at the Globes, what's up with this?  Ahhh, that makes sense.  Lincoln gets a preview of it's own.

9:01 - Love the intro for fellow SNLers! God, I miss those two on the Saturday night show.   Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.  This might be the longest award intro EVER! Apparently Tommy Lee Jones doesn't find this funny AT ALL. Jennifer Lawerence wins!!

That's the first hour and let's see what surprises await us for the second hour.

Thoughts from the Media Room: We started to catch up on this yesterday and while I'm only 3 episodes into the season so far. I'm really not enjoying this one as much as the first season. Feels like a totally different show so far. Within 5 minutes of the first season I was hooked. Just not feeling it this year.
