Disney buys Lucasfilm - Link Round Up Part Two

Earlier tonight I posted a bunch of links and within minutes I thought, oh what about that site and this site.  So after sitting on twitter for a while tonight, I've gathered more links and more great posts related to this epic moment in time.

Entertainment Weekly asks the question, Who should direct the next Star Wars film?  Find out who's on there short list here.

The LA Times is up next and they also asks just Who gets the task of carrying on this epic story from our youth.  They've even got a POLL! A guy named Nobody leads the survey with Joss Whedon a close second.  With Avengers 2 and S.H.E.I.L.D. I'm thinking his plate is already pretty full.

The Huffington Post TV Division re-tells the story of the 4 year in the works Star Wars tv show that frankly, I thought was dead in the water.  But when the company that now owns Star Wars also owns a tv channel, it might actually be alive again.

Geek Magazine has a quick post, nothing really new here.  They do have a cool play on a classic Mickey image using Death Stars though and that's worth a look.  I will agree with them in that when I first got the email this afternoon I was about to jump on twitter and facebook and tell everyone I know what's happening.  But I had to stop myself in my tracks and think.  Wait a second.  I need to read this first to see if this is real.  Just in case.

Another one of my favorite sites and I don't know how I forgot them the first time around on this, The Wrap has a nice two pager worth checking out.  Apparently those theme parks are profitable because in 6 years Disney has spent almost $15.5 BILLION dollars to aquire Pixar, Marvel and now Lucasfilm.

The always entertaining Alien Bee News has a nice post with a great Disney Star Wars Mashup, the article starts with Holy Sith Balls and ends in a terrible Star Wars Pun.

The great team at Nerd Bastards reacts much like I did while driving home this evening.  Oh by the way, tomorrow is THE worst drive home of the year.  Moving along.

If you want details and lots of it, head on over to Movie Web and they've got that covered.  They've already got a page with the details for Star Wars: Episode 9. I can't believe I just typed Star Wars: Episode 9.  Anyway, I wondered if the folks already have the Star Wars 7,8 and 9 pages in the database already.  They don't. Slackers.

Screenrant drops an article on the news as well as a video with fans/bloggers talking about it all.

This story is so big that even hardware site C-Net got into the spirit of it all.

Wired is all over this one starting here, another one here  to talk about what Disney brings to the table with the Franchise and then talk of the twitter reaction a bit here.

The Hollywood Reporter talks a bit about the what we might expect right over here.  They then get all Wall Street and Business World and talk about the deal and numbers.

Film School Rejects has a bit written, another copy of the press release if you haven't read that yet.  But they've got a great picture of the Lucasfilm logo with Mickey.  The amount of PhotoShop we've seen in the last 8 hours has been pretty awesome so far.

And lastly I'll round it out with the great team over at Slashfilm who have a massive Question and Answer section about this and is way worth the read.   They've started a discussion about how will Star Wars be different under Disney and without Lucas running the show.  Plus they've got their initial article on the whole thing right about here.

So that's it for now, I'm sure in the next few days further news will start to come out after the dust all starts to settle and we'll see where we go from here.

Disney buys Lucasfilm and Announces More Star Wars Movies!!

So today's really big news, other than Brian Butterfield heading over to those Red Sox is that Disney has bought Lucasfilm, Lucas Arts, Industrial Light and Magic plus Skywalker Ranch and Skywalker Sound. That's a whole lot of stuff for 4.05 BILLION Dollars.

Check the video and watch the announcement of the deal to the world.

Let's start right at the official Star Wars site and see what they've got to say.  Click that classic Logo and see what's up.

Lots of great stuff at StarWars.Com tonight that's for sure.  One interesting thing is a blog post about the future of the Star Wars films.  Something very cool is this picture from a 1978 Time article showing that the Star Wars films were planned to be a 12 movie story!

Check the entire blog post here.

You can check out the video where George Lucas talks the future of Lucas Film and Star Wars.

Next on the Official Star Wars site is the actual write-up and it's a long one on the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm here.

Next up I thought I'd head over to the House of Mouse and check out Disney.com and I'm stunned to see that the news of this story isn't on the main page.  Well, frankly they're too busy trying to see you products, trips and theme park packages for this to get in the way.

Let's move right along then.  I first caught wind of this massive story just after 4:00 when I was packing up getting ready to leave work from the great folks at Deadline.  If anyone sneezes in Hollywood Deadline emails their subscribers, so yes.  I get a LOT of email from Deadline.

UPDATE: BREAKING: ‘Star Wars’ Returns — ‘Episode 7′ Slated For 2015 And More Movies Planned As Disney Buys Lucasfilm

Lots of great stuff in there, updates have been added as this story develops.

Shortly after they also added this story.

So let's head over to one of my favorite tv sites, zap2it and see what they've got to say.

Next up will go to Entertainment Weekly and see what's up over there.  I'm expecting a cover very similar to this one in the next few weeks.

The wonder kids over at NY Mag's Vulture already have "7 Burning Questions" lined up for Episode 7.  Click the logo and check the story.

Next up I head over to the great team over at Joblo.com and see what's up there.  Great image of all the classic Disney/Star Wars toys created.  Nice stuff.

Keeping right along, let's stop off at Comingsoon.net and see what's happening there.

One last place that I want to look tonight and that's the Internet's biggest movie nerd, let's see what Ain't It Cool has to say on the matter.  You can check out there massive write up here.  They also have another piece here that's worth checking about ok, now what for Star Wars.

Lots to digest, I'm sure we'll all be dreaming tonight of that day in 2014 when the Episode 7 trailer finally drops.  Then we'll all spend weeks tearing it apart and complaining that Mickey has ruined our childhood and that we all want Lucas back ;)

Revenge Clue or Production screw up?

Thanks to a tip from a Media Room reader who asked when we watched Revenge to pass on what was written on the "framed cheque".   So as we're watching the episode earlier tonight and it got to the point when Victoria gave the cheque to Amanda, we played around with the PVR and a Blackberry to grab a picture to flip it to her. As we were trying to get a good picture of the cheque I was noting some of the details.  I am one of those guys that was messing around with numbers and Lost message boards for six years.

Then came the scene where Nolan's CFO found the actual framed cheque. So trying to get a picture of that I noticed a couple odd things.

At first I thought the addresses were the same, but after looking at them closer that seems to be correct. I just wonder why someone would have cheques for their summer home addresses. Now that I've thought about the address some more, didn't Emily say that say that David rented that house?

After the first cheque I noticed the cheque number because the 27th is Mrs Media Room's birthday. So when the second cheque came along and it also shared the same cheque number I thought, hmmm. What a wacky co-incidence that is. Then I looked a bit closer and noticed that what can either be called a production error or one major clue to the Revenge story. While they are different banks, what are the chances that all the banking information on the cheques would match?  Check the account number and bank information numbers along the bottom of the cheque.  Like woah. 90162537 and 287381942 on both of them.

So, check the pictures below and tell me. Production error or hint?

"Wanted List" - Random

I was just bouncing around the net and I thought of something that just has to be added to the wanted list.  I could picture it now, mounted on the wall above the fireplace.

One of my Dexter Questions.

I was about to post something to Facebook and then I thought about spoilers and while talking stuff on Facebook I try to be as careful with spoilers as I can be.

So, if you have watched any Season 7 of Dexter, stop. Turn Around and maybe check out the Media Room "Wanted List" stuff on the right.

If you have watched this season of Dexter, keep on scrolling down.

So my question is.

Will Deb give Dexter a file to clean up or will she ask to watch a full Dexter kill first?

Now that I've taken the time to actually write the second part of the question, I don't mean walking in on him.  I mean, set up the kill room and see him do everything.

"Wanted List" - Boardgame Edition

I had the guys over on Saturday for some board game action, some Dominion, Settlers of Catan and the finally opened Ticket to Ride.  We've got a pile of games, but you've only got space for so many different games and only so much time before you just get tired.

It got me thinking, I really need to put together a list of games that need to be added to the Media Room shelves.

First up, you'd think I'd already have everything that you could possibly get for Catan.  I'm quite obsessed with Catan to the point that my license plate is Catan themed.  Over at Kickstarter you can take a look at this amazing Catan project to actually keep the cards in place.  This thing is beautiful, sadly I'd need like six or seven of them to fit all my Catan pieces.  Regardless, this will become a must.

Next up and keeping up with the Catan theme is these amazing Catan Coasters.  Both awesome and educational all at the same time.  We're already taking up precious table space with the building card, why not make it do something useful.  These are available at the very cool Catan Shop. What? You don't have a Catan T-Shirt, Apron or Catan Cake Tin? Well then head on over.

Enough Catan, next up is another recent find.  These games are a bit older now, but I've been so locked into Catan that I've only just opened up to other games.

So, after playing Dominion for like 10 minutes I knew was hooked and needed more.  So, like Catan I feel the need to line some shelves of the Media Room with most of the expansions.

Over the weekend, I finally broke out Ticket to Ride.  I've had this one in a box for a couple months know and never got a chance to play it.  It took a couple of games but I'm hooked.  Downloaded it for my Ipad last night and played way too much last night and way too much today at work.  So again, we need to expand the gaming universe and pick up some more.

Next up is an expansion of a game that I have but I've yet to play.

So that's it for now, I'm sure a visit to the game store we'll able to find more great games that need to be played.

For great prices and a great selection of games head on over to Geek Stop Games based out of London for all your gaming needs.  There is more to life out there than Monopoly.

Nothing new on tonight around here, but that's ok I've only got to catch up on today's PTI, 666 Park Avenue, Revenge, Elementary, Parks and Recreation, a Daily Show episode. 11 episodes of Being Human, 9 episodes of Luck, 6 episodes of The Fades, all of the first season of Common Law, 9 episodes of Episodes, 13 episodes of Weeds, 4 episodes of Homeland, 6 episodes of Boardwalk Empire, 3 episodes of Sons of Anarchy, an episode of Dexter, an episode each of Vampire Diaries, Walking Dead and Comic Book Men.  Then I've only got another 3 and a bit seasons left of my Cosby Show re-watch.  I want to re-watch all the 90's version X-Men cartoon, a 1960's Captain America and start Robot Chicken from the beginning.  Everyone is telling me to watch Homicide Life on the Street, so that's in the pile as well. I've only watched the first season of Hustle, so that's another 7 seasons of that, thankfully those are only 6 episodes each.  I've also pledged to myself to see what the hype on Doctor Who is all about, so far I've watch 3 episodes of that. Just remembered I've got last weeks Highway Thru Hell to watch, geez.

Then we've got secondary stuff that I have that at some point I'd like to get around to.  A couple British series called The Tube and Satellite City.  I've heard good thing about Survivors so that's on my list to watch.  Speaking of British shows, look at that.  The next season of Misfits starts up again next week. I also started to watch the 1987 cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles again the other week.  Magic City and Boss is also waiting to be viewed.  I've got the first season of Web Therapy laying around, but I'm not sure if I've got the desire to watch that one.

So ya, even though there is nothing on tonight, there is always something on.  Plus after sitting in the Media Room for a few months now, this past weekend we opened the boardgame Ticket for Ride.  Woah, addicted.
