So today we've had two lots of Award Nominations announced, so first off I'll go over the Producers Guild of America nominations. I've already gone over my thoughts on "snubs" in an earlier post, but I really don't see how anyone might complain about these nominations. I just wonder about putting Toy Story in the motion picture category. But hey, enough people must have thought it deserved to be in there since it is in there, so who am I to argue?
Theatrical Motion Picture
127 Hours
Black Swan
Inception
The Fighter
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
The Town
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Thoughts from the Media Room: Really can't argue with these for the most part, having seen most of them at this point. So far Black Swan has wowed me the most with The Fighter coming in a very close second. I still need to get out there and watch The King's Speech as that seems to be the favorite on a lot of people's list. But as of today, I'm going with Black Swan. Ahhh, I'm reading this over and I really did love The Social Network and The Town as well. No, I'll still pick Swan.
Animated Film
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
Toy Story 3
Thoughts from the Media Room: I know I know; Ant? How could you vote against Toy Story? Very easily say I. I found Toy Story to be a very very dark film and that's not what I'm looking for in a animated film. I found Despicable Me to be a much more entertaining story with a much happier ending, plus I found it much more fun to watch. I remember when TS3 first came out I was reading stories of people just balling at the end of it. I just didn't get that emotional connection to the film. So for that, it won't get my vote. That being said, it'll prolly win every animated category it's in this award season.
Documentary
Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer
Earth Made of Glass
Inside Job
Smash His Camera
The Tillman Story
Waiting for "Superman"
Thoughts from the Media Room: One of the tougher categories for me to pick. I do remember hearing something about a documentary that I thought looked good and I said I really need to watch that. Can I remember what that was at this point? Nooooo, I've got a notebook for such things, you would have thought I would have written it down. I've been hearing great things about Superman, so it'll get my vote. Although The Tilman Story would also get a vote from me.
TV Comedy
30 Rock
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Glee
Modern Family
The Office
Thoughts from the Media Room: I'm not going to pick anything for this one as I'm confused how The Big Bang Theory isn't on this list.
TV Drama
Breaking Bad
Dexter
Lost
Mad Men
True Blood
Thoughts from the Media Room: I don't care how great Season Three of Breaking Bad or Season Four of Mad Men was. Lost is Lost. It'll always get a vote from me. Say what you will about the series finale, in my books it was one of the greatest endings ever.
Long-Form Television
Murder on the Orient Express
Pillars of the Earth
Temple Grandin
The Pacific
You Don't Know Jack
Thoughts from the Media Room: What a fancy way of saying, Best Made for Tv Movie. Grandin cleaned up last year so I still go with that. Sure The Pacific was more epic in nature and probably more complicated to put together. Was it better? Or was it better acted. From what I've read and heard, I'd have to say no.
Non-Fiction TV
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations
Deadliest Catch
Intervention
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List
Undercover Boss
Thoughts from the Media Room: I finally got introduced to Deadliest Catch this past summer, what a show! This one really shouldn't be fair. Griffin? Seriously? I don't get it.
Live Entertainment and Competition TV
The Amazing Race
The Colbert Report
Project Runway
Real Time With Bill Maher
Top Chef
Thoughts from the Media Room: Normally I would have picked The Amazing Race, but this year the cast was off. There was no drama and it got to the point where it was a group of friends travelling around the globe, oh ya, they're playing to win a large cash prize. So I'll have to go with Colbert.
