Thoughts from the Media Room: Wow, a lot of throw backs this week. She-Ra, Webster, Voltron. Nice. Would I buy them? Prolly not, well maybe the Webster one out of the discount pile in a few months for 19.99. Tupac died 15 years ago this September and we're now releasing his prison tapes? Seriously? Wow, that being said, Elvis died in 1977 and that family is still cashing in on it. MI-5 is a great show that people should rent. They made a second Open Season? Let alone a third? I would also rent The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, I hear this book is where the series really starts getting really good. The American version of the first movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo shuold be coming out around Christmas time. There is nothing here that I must drive the truck out to Best Buy to pick up.

Next week we've got Airwolf, Cake Boss and The Tillman Story

Thoughts from the Media Room:

Wow, this list of music makes me feel quite old as I don't know a lot of it, scratch that, I don't know most of it.. Question, did Tokio Hotel release more than one album?  How do they have a best of album? On my list of buys would be Pearl Jam andThe Decemberists.  A new Social Distortion album, that's cool, I didn't even know they'd still be together.

New Release Tuesday - DVD Edition - January 17th

Death Race 2 (Unrated)
The Dogfather
Down Terrace
Freakonomics

Merlin: The Complete Second Season
The Naked Kiss (Criterion Collection)
Paper Man
Shock Corridor (Criterion Collection)
Sins of My Father
Stone
Takers
The Virginity Hit
Waking the Dead: Season Five

Thoughts from the Media Room:

Wow, what a shit week for dvd releases. The only thing on my buy list would be Justified Season 1, if you haven't watch this, you really should. Then on my rental list would be the documentries Sins of my Fathers, the Pablo Escobar story and that looks interesting and Freakonomics based on the book of the same title. I watched Takers in the theatre and it was ok, a rental for those that want a decent action flick. Everytime I see waking the dead on the list I think of Walking Dead and then I'm sad it's still so far away.

New Release Tuesday - DVD Edition

We've gone over the music, now let's a take a look at what hit the video stores this week.

Alpha and Omega
Chris Angel Mindfreak: Season 6
Dances with Wolves (20th Anniversary)

Doctor Who: Episode 111 - Meglos
Doctor Who: Episode 44 - The Dominators
ER: The Complete Fourteenth Season
The Freebie
Funny or Die Presents: The Complete First Season

Greek: Chapter Five - The Complete Third Season
The Green Hornet (Movie Edition)
The Green Hornet (Original Serials Collector's Set)
The Hessen Conspiracy
Howl

Hot in Cleveland: Season One
How to Get Ahead in Advertising
Kathleen Madigan: Gone Madigan
Love Hurts
The Narnia Code

Piranha 3D
Psychosis
Rules of Engagement: The Complete Fourth Season
Shake Hands with the Devil

The Social Network (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Sordid Lives: The Series
There's Nothing Out There
Top Shot: Season One
The Universe: The Complete Season Five
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Season Four, Volume Two

Again a better week on the DVD front:  I'd buy Dances with Wolves, Funny Or Die, Season 1 and The Social Network.  I'd also pick up Howl as I'm a huge fan of anything Beat Generation related.  Read Big Sur, great book that'll mess with your head.  But a great read.  I'd rent The Narnia Code and Shake Hands with the Devil.  Betty White fans might want to catch up with Hot In Cleveland.  Again there is that Greek show, I hear good things about that one but that's a lot to catch up on at this point.  If I haven't gone back and watched Sopranos from the beginning I doubt I'll watch all of Greek.  Finally for bad horror fans and fans of the top rated nude scene of 2010 we've got Piranha 3D.  Mind Freak Season 6? How'd that happen?

New Release Tuesday - Music Edition

The Morning After Girls - Alone
The Davenports - Why The Great Gallop?
Alfredo Olivas - El Patroncito
Boyz II Men - Legacy: The Greatest Hits Collection
N.E.R.D. - The Best of N.E.R.D.
Shirley Caesar - The Ultimate Collection
Lee Dosey - Absolutely The Best

Buddy Guy & Junior Wells - The Best of Buddy Guy & Junior Wells
Various Artists - Hand In Glove: The Smiths Tribute
Various Artists - Ultra Latino
Various Artists - Bossa Nova Around The World
Various Artists - Suspension of Disbelief: The Essential Alfred Hitchcock Collection

A bit better than last week, the album covers I've included would be the albums that I'd pick up.  But I'm guessing my music choices are VERY different then yours.  Cake hasn't released anything in years, so I'd be curious in what they've come up with.  Cage, I can handle them in small doses but the lead singers voice tends to irritate me.

New Release Tuesday - DVD Edition

It's new release Tuesday and first off I'll start with the new DVD's that are arriving today, not a heck of a lot worth watching in my opinion.

Big Love: The Complete Fourth Season
Bitter Feast
Catfish
Dinner for Schmucks
Good Neighbor Sam
Gun
The Last Exorcism
The Lena Baker Story
Life Unexpected: The Complete First Season
Machete
Mama Flora's Family
Mannix: The Fourth Season
The Notorious Landlady
Operation Mad Ball
Phffft
The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season
The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Complete Third Season
Ticking Clock
Under the Yum Yum Tree

Thoughts from the Mediaroom: I'd be looking at The Ricky Gervais show as I love anything he's in and maybe I'd rent Machete. I actually went to the theatre to watch Dinner for Schmucks and I can say without a doubt it's the worst movie I've ever seen in a theatre and prolly top 5 worst I've ever watched anywhere.

Next week is looking much, much better.
