Fall TV Preview - Tuesdays

Yesterday I took a peek at Mondays fall lineup here.

Today I'll take a close look at what Tuesdays will bring us, changing the format up a bit. I know not everyone likes scoops or spoilers so I'll put those in the last section of each show writeup. That way you can read and watch about the show but can avoid the spoilerish sections.

8:00 PM
ABC

New Show!

No Ordinary Family (September 28th, 1st Season)

I watched the pilot for this show last night and for a first episode it was ok. It didn't help that it starred Michael Chiklis from Fantastic Four. It reminded me very much of Fantastic Four but not as comic booky. I think that might be the issue I have with the show. It doesn't have an identity, it's not comic booky enough for the geeks, but it's not family drama/comedy enough for everyone else. I'm not sure if ABC realizes this, but NBC just cancelled a superhero show, I guess they are hoping that Family can fill that void.

Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle said, "There's lot of promise here, of drama, action, comedy, etc, all wrapped up in a family-friendly series."

Premise:
The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie's relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something's not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important, as they try to find purpose for their new powers and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family who happen to be a little bit amazing.

Cast:
Michael Chiklis as Jim Powell – a police artist who is super-strong, bullet proof, and can leap tall buildings
Julie Benz as Stephanie Powell – a scientist with super speed
Kay Panabaker as Daphne Powell – a teenager with telepathy
Jimmy Bennett as JJ Powell – a teenager with vast intelligence
Tate Donovan as Mitch McCutcheon
Romany Malco as George St. Cloud
Autumn Reeser as Katie Andrews
Christina Chang as Det. Yvonne Cho
Stephen Collins as Dr. Dayton King
Josh Stewart as Watcher

It's got a great cast, some of which were on some great cable shows in years past.

Here's a picture of the cast:

For a limited time you can watch the Pilot for No Ordinary Family on the ABC website.

Here's a look at the promo:

And some scoops for future episodes:

#1.2 of No Ordinary Family introduces a fellow mom named Nina Claremont. She pretty much sees Stephanie (the character Julie Benz plays) as mostly absent for her kids’ scholastic events. Somehow she ropes Stephanie into participating in a school fundraiser, and then of course something involving the use of super-powers takes Stephanie away. That “something” seems to be a bank robbery that Jim’s friend George (Romany Malco) seems to be stuck in the middle of.

This and the pilot are the only episodes that will have the “interview narration” from the Powells.

#1.3 Title Unknown
Guest Stars: Seema Lazar (Bride), Madisen Beaty (Sara), Jonna Walsh (Megan)

Daphne blackmails her brother, JJ, into using his powers for her own benefit.
There is also a subplot involving an old friend named Megan whose loneliness is obvious to Daphne who can read her thoughts.
“Secret identities” seem to be a theme of the third episode.
A bride that Jim and Stephanie meet in the episode will be played by Seema Lazar, and her bridesmaid will be portrayed by Ashley Palmer. Sara, who is a girl that JJ likes, is being played by Madisen Beaty.

#1.4 “No Ordinary Vigilante”
Guest Stars: Steven Kreuger (Reynolds), Jonna Walsh (Megan)

JJ uses his powers to get a chance to try out for the football team.
Daphne learns the “secret” location of a somewhat obnoxious upperclassman’s party thanks to her powers.
Steven Kreuger plays “Reynolds,” a member of the school’s football team who J.J. subs in for.

#1.5 “No Ordinary Quake” (Title Not Confirmed)

Daphne suspects that something inappropriate is happening between one of her friends and one of her teachers.
Jim runs into someone else who has powers, but that person not be doing the right things with them.
Someone with powers creates an earthquake-like situation.

#1.6 Title Unknown

In the sixth episode of No Ordinary Family, Daphne discovers she has a new ability, and Stephanie’s parents come to visit the family. The “Detective Cordero” character makes another appearance in the episode.

Thanks to: http://www.ksitetv.com/no-ordinary-family-spoilers/ for the scoops.

NBC:
The Biggest Loser (September 21st, 10th Season)

Nothing really to add to this one except for the start date, either you watch it or you don't.

CBS:
NCIS (September 21st, 8th Season)

Where it left off:
Gibbs's captor is Paloma Reynosa, the daughter of the drug dealer, Pedro Hernandez who Gibbs murdered twenty years previously after Hernandez ordered the deaths of both Kelly and Shannon Gibbs. Paloma wants revenge against Gibbs for killing her father and threatens to kill everyone Gibbs has ever met, starting with Mike Franks and ending with his father if he does not start working on her behalf. It is revealed that Alejandro is Paloma's brother and that he opened the case of his father's murder in an attempt to keep Gibbs out of his sister's reach whilst still delivering justice, but things are complicated by the loss of Abby's report from "Patriot Down" - which has been intercepted by Allison Hart to prevent it from reaching Mexico. Meanwhile, Ziva has passed her citizenship test and is expecting Tony and Gibbs to attend her citizenship ceremony. Tony is forced to break his promise to her when the situation escalates, and he is tasked with shadowing Rivera, meeting Mike Franks during the assignment. The episode ends with Paloma traveling to Pennsylvania and entering the store owned by Jackson Gibbs, leaving his fate unknown.

Scoops:
  • The first minute is described as explosive! Gibbs Sr., who will be alive and kicking, will be at the center of the episode. However, he may not be doing so well at the end of the hour. Also in the episode will be Mike Franks who will offer his help in taking the cartel down.
  • The resolution of last season's cliff-hanger will speak volumes about what sort of dad Gibbs Sr. was to his son and we'll see why Gibbs is very much cut from the same cloth. November Sweeps will have the show dip again into a story that perhaps everyone thought was played out and it involves Ziva.
  • The murder of Pedro Hernandez will add a new layer to the already contentious relationship between Gibbs and Director Vance. We'll see Vance's somewhat shocking reaction in the premiere, but it may also give hints to Vance's own mysterious past.
  • Expect two blasts from the past after the new season gets underway on Sept. 21. The show has a few old scores to settle -- primarily with Ziva's dad, Eli David. Robert Wagner will return as Tony's father.
FOX:
Glee (September 21st, 2nd Season)

The biggest new show of last season is under some serious pressure to keep it going. I felt the last half of the season was not as good as the first, seemed like they were bringing in too many gimmicks. I hope they can return the show to the first half, bring it back to the students and not just dance routines.

Preview and Spoilers:

Where it left off:
New Directions competes against Vocal Adrenaline and Aural Intensity, seen here for the first time, at Regionals, in front of celebrity judges Olivia Newton-John, Josh Groban, Sue, and Rod Remington. Vocal Adrenaline wins and New Directions comes last, despite unexpected support from Sue, who is able to identify with the club's underdog status after being derided by the other judges. She convinces Principal Figgins to grant the club a reprieve, and not disband them for another year. Will and Finn profess their love for Emma and Rachel respectively. Quinn goes into labor and gives birth to a baby girl, who is adopted by Shelby, and named Beth at Puck's request

Episode 1 titled: Auditions
Episode 2 titled: Britney/Brittany
Episode 3 titled: Faith

Scoops:
  • New cast member Chord Overstreet will be in the glee club and a football player. His character, Sam, will start as Finn's friend but will eventually become a rival.
  • Britney Spears will appear in a few scenes of the next season episode that will feature her music. In the episode, some of the characters will be in the dentist's chair, Emma's new boyfriend Carl played by John Stamos, and will hallucinate about being like Britney. What may prompt these Britney-themed hallucinations is the fact that Britney will play Carl's dental hygienist. These anesthesia-induced fantasies will feature the singer's songs. Contrary to rumors, Mr. Schuester will not shave his head in the episode.
  • The theme of the season premiere will be "auditions," explaining how we all feel like we're auditioning in all parts of life. The third episode will revolve around the various characters' takes on faith. Sue Sylvester will be writing her autobiography... which will come out as a real book. In one episode in the latter half of the season, the kids will be assigned to write their own songs. So for the first time, original music will be commissioned for the show.
  • There will be a Christmas episode. Series co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy is hoping that Susan Boyle will sign on to spread holiday cheer.
  • Brittany and Santana will kiss a couple of times in an episode. Santana and Quinn will be duking it out to see who will be the Queen Bee of the school. Rachel's dads may not be featured on the show this season after all. There are reports that Matthew Morrison will apparently shave off his curls during the Britney Spears-themed episode to recreate when Britney shaved her own head.
  • Brad the piano player is the anti-Gleek. The actor has been given only one direction: he hates the kids. There is a backstory in store where Brad goes back home and does voodoo dolls. Carol Burnett will play Sue's Nazi-hunting mother.
  • Cheyenne Jackson is joining the cast in a major recurring role. Jackson will succeed Idina Menzel as the coach of Vocal Adrenaline.
  • 'Glee' is parting ways with actor Patrick Gallagher, who is not expected to reprise his role as football coach Ken Tanaka in the smash series' sophomore season. Actress Dot Jones will be William McKinley High's new football coach, Shannon Beiste.
  • The season premiere will catch up with our favorite Gleeks after their summer vacation exploits. Unfortunately, their very-public humiliation at the hands of Vocal Adrenaline and Oral Intensity will have them sadly seen as bigger losers than they were last season. There will be a 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' tribute episode during season 2. Tina will fall out of love with Artie and fall for dance-master Mike Chang instead. The show will feature another long-awaited Amber Riley solo when Mercedes takes Kurt to her church. It will feature covers of 'Papa, Can You Hear Me?' and 'Losing My Religion.'
  • Actor and musician Chord Overstreet has landed the recurring role of Sam, a McKinley High jock who starts off as Finn's protégé but slowly becomes his competition.
  • Quinn will play a surprising role in Kurt's new romance.
  • Rachel and Finn will be together all season. Don't expect the couple to quickly jump into bed. Rachel will find out that Finn lied to her about sleeping with Santana. Next year, we'll get to see Nationals. Terri Schuester will be back full-time. Kristin Chenoweth will return early in the season as April.
  • Mike O'Malley, who plays Kurt's father, will be a series regular next season. Puck and Quinn won't be together. Quinn will be back to her old, bitchy self while somehow managing to maintain BFF status with Mercedes. Brittany will take center stage, singing two entire songs, in the Britney Spears-themed episode. Terri will devote her day-to-day efforts to winning Will back. She'll even go as far as getting involved with a dude who's actually capable of making Will jealous.
  • The show is adding a new high school jock named Sam, who is described as very good looking. Though he plays football, Sam must also have a strong singing voice. Sounds like he could be at the heart of the season premiere, which is titled "Audition."

Don't watch this show, I'm assuming that this is the results show?

Comic Con Interview:

Where it left off:
Callen and the others find Eugene Keelson's hideout filled with valuable information on Callen. Someone knows they are in the house, and attempts to blow it up. The team escape with their lives intact, but whatever information Keelson had is lost. Eugene knew that Callen was in 37 foster homes, and of the existence of G's sister, Amy Callen. Callen tracks her down, but she admits that her name is Hannah Lawson, and that she knew Callen's sister when they both lived in an orphanage together. Amy had died, however, when the two sneaked out at night to play in the river. When Hannah returned, she slept in Amy's bed, and the caretakers there never realized what had happened. When Amy's body was found a few months later, she was buried under Hannah's name. Callen later goes to visit that grave, and finds an obviously recent note left to "my Sweet daughter". During the episode, Nate Getz discovers that a list of all G's foster homes and orphanages was written by one person over a number of years, indicating that someone has been keeping an eye on him during that time.

Scoops:
Newcomer Renee Felice Smith will play the recurring role of Nell, a bright, quirky, and chatty intelligence analyst whose job will be to assist Eric.

FOX:
Raising Hope (September 21st, 1st Season)

New Show!

Premise:
Raising Hope is a new single-camera family comedy from Emmy Award winner Greg Garcia ("My Name Is Earl") that follows the Chance family as they find themselves adding an unexpected new member into their household. Jimmy's life takes a drastic turn when a chance romantic encounter with Lucy goes awry once he discovers she is a wanted felon. Months later, when Jimmy pays a visit to the local prison, he discovers Lucy gave birth to their baby, who he is now charged with raising.

I don't know about this one, I always like to see former Goonies getting some work. But the Cloris Leachman casting seems like some Betty White syndrome to me. Plus it's on Fox.

Cast:
Lucas Neff as Jimmy Chance
Martha Plimpton as Virginia Chance
Garret Dillahunt as Burt Chance
Skyler Stone as Mike
Shannon Marie Woodward as Sabrina

Guest cast
Cloris Leachman as Maw Maw
Bijou Phillips as Lucy
Kate Micucci as Shelly

9:30
FOX:
Running Wilde (September 21st, 1st Season)

New Show!

Premise:
From the Emmy Award-winning creator and the star of the critically acclaimed FOX series "Arrested Development" comes RUNNING WILDE, a romantic comedy starring Will Arnett ("Arrested Development," "30 Rock") as Steve Wilde, a filthy-rich, immature playboy trying desperately to win (or buy) the heart of his childhood sweetheart, EMMY KADUBIC (Keri Russell, "Waitress," "Felicity"), the über-liberal humanitarian who got away – all told through the perspective of a 12-year-old girl.

Steve Wilde has never performed a selfless act. But why should he – he's rich! The son of an oil tycoon, Steve hasn’t had to work a day in his life and has always gotten everything he’s wanted – with one exception: the love of Emmy.

The daughter of a former Wilde housekeeper, Emmy is an earnest do-gooder who has spent her adult life trying to save the world. And though Emmy is content living with an indigenous tribe in the Amazon rainforest, her 12-year-old daughter, PUDDLE (Stefania Owen, "The Lovely Bones"), just wants to be a normal kid experiencing her adolescence in a normal place. And she would speak up except for the fact that she hasn't spoken in years.

What's not to love about this show! The reviews so far aren't all that positive, it's no Arrested Development is what I'm hearing.

Cast:
Will Arnett as Steve Wilde
Keri Russell as Emmy Kadubic
Robert Michael Morris as Mr. Lunt
Mel Rodriguez as Migo Salazar
Stefania Owen as Puddle Kadubic
Peter Serafinowicz as Fa’ad Shaoulin
David Cross as Andy

NBC:
Parenthood (September 14th, 2nd Season)

A great show that I caught about half the episodes of last year. Enjoyed what I saw, plays like a normal family and not a typical tv family. If you've got room on your schedule, I suggest jumping in.

Promo:

Where we left the Braverman clan: Sarah meets with Mr. Cyr (Jason Ritter) to discuss Amber; Crosby must decide if he will stay with his old family or move in with his new one; Zeek tries to win Camille back.

Scoop:
Billy Baldwin is joining the cast as Adam's boss, Gordon, and a love interest for Sarah. We will not only meet Adam's boss but also some new co-workers, which includes his sister Sarah. Amber will be getting a new, upper-crust BFF, which brings out Sarah's jealous side. Julia and Joel will consider having a second child. Steve won't be back with Amber when the show returns. Haddie, meanwhile, will get a new love interest from the other side of the tracks. The heads of the Braverman clan will be working on saving their marriage, which starts comedically in marriage counseling.

CBS:
The Good Wife (September 28th, 2nd Season)

One of the most highly reviewed shows of last season returns.

Where we left off: Alicia must decide whether to stand by her husband or pursue a relationship with Will.

Scoop:
'Friday Night Lights's' Scott Porter is joining the show as a professional and perhaps personal foil to Archie Punjabi's sexually ambiguous Kalinda. Porter's handsome and mysterious character, Blake, is Kalinda's private-eye counterpart at the D.C. firm that's merging with Lockhart & Gardner. Per the casting breakdown, Blake "offsets his cynical attitude with lots of hidden humor and sexual charisma. He is disguised as a landlord when he first encounters Kalinda, who doesn't appreciate being taken in by this 'master of disguise.' However, underneath their fractious interactions, there's definite chemistry between these two." Porter's exact episode count is still being worked out, but he could appear in as many as ten episodes.
First episode titled Taking Control

FX:
Sons of Anarchy (September 7th, 3rd Season)

This has become one of my favorite shows of all time! Stop reading this post and go and get the dvd's! You won't regret it. Once you start it, you just can't stop. Great cast and superb writing.

Where we left Samcro: Tara called Jax to tell him Gemma was on the run only to be interrupted by Cameron. Concerned, Jax returned to his home where he discovers the body of Half-Sack (actor Johnny Lewis wished to move on.) Distraught, Jax notices Tara is no where to be found and frantically searches the house for her only to find her tied up and gagged next to Abel's crib. After ungagging her Tara tells Jax that Abel was taken by Cameron. Jax calls Clay who returns to help track down Cameron without killing Zobelle. The Sons pursue Cameron who makes his way to the docks where he takes Abel and boards his boat. Chief Unser, after receiving a phone call from Gemma, is last seen driving in his police cruiser with her past Charming's city limits, apparently running off with her. Ethan Zobelle is seen quickly getting on a chartered plane back to Budapest without his dead daughter, Polly. The season ends with The Sons arriving just as Cameron is leaving the docks with Clay comforting a screaming Jax.

Scoops:
  • According to series creator Kurt Sutter, FX will be picking up season three of Sons of Anarchy and season three will deal with SAMCRO's roots. The third season is slated to premiere in September 2010. Additionally, Sutter wants to "take [the Sons] into a world that is outside their own, where they don't have control, where they are subject to other people's laws and beliefs and parameters, Where they aren't quite the big fish in the small pond."
  • Award-winning actor Hal Holbrook has officially signed on for a four-episode arc, in which he will portray Katey Sagal's character's father, making him the first official guest star of the third season. Stephen King has officially landed a role on Season 3. Plans for Taryn Manning to return in season three and reprise the role of Cherry were shot down after Taryn was booked for the remake of Hawaii 5-0. Kurt tweeted "happy for taryn manning getting 5-0 gig. hopefully 3 will be the charm for les' boy o'loughlin. bummed for soa, had an arc for cherry in S3." It has since been announced that Manning will appear in at least three episodes of third season.

See you tomorrow with a look at what Wednesday is offering.
