Golden Globe Nominations and my picks to win...

So The Globes got announced this morning and I'm stunned how often I see
The Tourist on this list. This movie didn't get reviewed very well by anyone and was described as a movie for Depp and Jolie to look beautiful in and that's about it. I've made my picks where possible and explanations for making them.

Who are your favorites in each category?

MOVIES

Best Picture - Drama

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network

This one is going to be tough for me, these are all really, really good movies. At this point I'm torn between Social Network and Inception. I've yet to see The King's Speech so that might get thrown in there as well at some point. I hear great things about that movie. So, I can't make a pick at this point.

Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids are Alright
Red
The Tourist

Wow, this is a weak category. I've heard great things about Kids, so I've gotta go with that one.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter

Another tough one, but I have to go with Franco at this point. I've heard he's fantastic in 127 Hours. Again when I see The King's Speech that might change to Firth.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama

Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman, The Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine

I've heard that Winter's Bone is one of the best movies of the year, kind of surprised it didn't get a nomination, but I guess there is flashier movies got that attention. I need to watch these to really make a pick.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp, The Tourist
Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey, Casino Jack

Nothing is jumping out at me at this point, just to make a pick I'll take Wonderland.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy

Annette Bening, The Kids Are Alright
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie, The Tourist
Emma Stone, Easy A
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are Alright

I'm leaning to Bening at this point, but I'd really need to see the movies to make a true pick.

Best Supporting Actress

Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom

Best Supporting Actor

Christian Bale, The Fighter
Michael Douglas, Wall Street 2
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech

I hear that Bale in The Fighter might be his best performance yet, but I really like Renner in anything. I'm so torn! Douglas in Wall Street 2? Really?

Best Director

Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
David Fincher, The Social Network
Tom Hooper, The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan, Inception
David O. Russell, The Fighter

Ugh, this is a brutal category. How do you pick? I can't!

Best Screenplay

Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy, 127 Hours
Lisa Cholodenko, The Kids are Alright
Christopher Nolan, Inception
David Sieber, The King's Speech
Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network

Another tough one, but I'm leaning to Nolan. How does someone actually think up Inception? No, seriously, how could you think of that?

Best Animated Feature

Despicable Me
Dragon
The Illusionist
Tangled
Toy Story 3

The easiest pick of the list.

Best Foreign Language Film

Biutiful
The Concert
The Edge
I Am Love
In a Better World

Best Original Song

Bound to You, Burlesque
Coming Home, Country Song
I See the Light, Tangled
There's a Place For Us, Dawn Treader
You Haven't Seen the Last of Me, Burlesque

Best Original Score

Alexandre Desplat, The King's Speech
Danny Elfman, Alice in Wonderland
AR Rahman, 127 Hours
Hans Zimmer, Inception
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network

When I walked out of The Social Network, the first thing I thought of was how amazing was that score? Plus it would be awesome to see Trent Reznor up there accepting an award.

TELEVISION

Best Television Series - Drama

Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men
The Walking Dead

I'd love to see Walking Dead take it, but I think Boardwalk will get it because it's prolly more "Hollywood" of a pick. Mad Men can't win again can it?

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama

Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Hugh Laurie, House

Come on. Give it to him already. Cranston can't win it every year, can he?

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama

Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men
Piper Perabo, Covert Affairs
Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy
Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer

Second easiest pick of the list. How Katey hasn't won for this role yet is beyond me.

Best Television Series - Comedy

30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
The Big C
Glee
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie

Funniest and most consistent show on Television.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy

Toni Collette, The United States of Tara
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Laura Linney, The Big C
Lea Michele, Glee

I really enjoyed this show and I don't think it gets enough press. To be different I'll take Linney and she was really good in this tough role.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy

Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Steve Carell, The Office
Thomas Jane, Hung
Matthew Morrison, Glee
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory

Another easy pick for me as Parsons is awesome on TBBT. If it's not Parsons I'd like to see Baldwin get it.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Scott Caan, Hawaii Five-0
Chris Colfer, Glee
Chris Noth, The Good Wife
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family
David Strathairn, Temple Grandin

Another awesome performance.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Hope Davis, The Special Relationship
Jane Lynch, Glee
Kelly MacDonald, Boardwalk Empire
Julia Stiles, Dexter
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family

Duh.

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Carlos
The Pacific
Pillars of the Earth
Temple Grandin
You Don't Know Jack

Temple won a ton of awards last year at the Emmy's I guess, it's someone else's turn.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television

Hayley Atwell, Pillars of the Earth
Claire Danes, Temple Grandin
Judi Dench, Return to Cranford
Romola Garai, Emma
Jennifer Love Hewitt, The Client List

Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television

Idris Elba, Luther
Ian McShane, Pillars of the Earth
Al Pacino, You Don't Know Jack
Dennis Quaid, The Special Relationship
Edgar Ramirez, Carlos

Luther is simply awesome and I've loved Idris since The Wire and would see him in anything.

And that's it. The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on Sunday, January 16, 2011 on NBC .
