Another busy day of nominations, I'll start off with the 9th Annual Visual Effects Society Award Nominations. Some "interesting" categories in this one, just wait till be get to the commercial categories.
Here we go!
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual-Effects Driven Feature Motion Picture
Inception
Iron Man 2
TRON: Legacy
Alice In Wonderland
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Thoughts from the Media Room: Inception was really the only movie on this list where we talked about the effects after the movie. Sure, Tron was cool, but that's what I expected. The fight scene in Inception with the room spinning around was something else. We chatted about that one for a while after we saw the flick.
Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture
Green Zone
Salt
Hereafter
Black Swan
Robin Hood
Thoughts from the Media Room: I'm only picking this one because of the leg snapping scene. Sure the other movies had some great action sequences, but nothing I hadn't seen before. I can honestly say I'd never seen anything like that before watching Black Swan.
Outstanding Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture
Tangled
How to Train Your Dragon
Toy Story 3
Shrek Forever After
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
Thoughts from the Media Room: The Zack Snyder owl movie really didn't get much notice when it came out. But those Owl's looked realler then real and for that, it gets my vote.
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Miniseries, Movie or a Special
Last Day of the Dinosaurs
Inside The Perfect Predator
The Pacific
Prep and Landing: Operation Secret Santa
America – Story of US
Thoughts from the Media Room: The Pacific was the only one I have watched and that thing was epic. So, it gets my vote.
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series
Caprica
No Ordinary Family
V
The Event
Stargate: Universe
Thoughts from the Media Room: I really can't pick anything here, but seriously No Ordinary Family gets a nomination? Were they looking to fill a spot? I often watch that show and think, damn that looked cheesy.
Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program
The Walking Dead
Human Target
Undercovers
Boardwalk Empire
Lost
Thoughts from the Media Room: The Walking Dead for sure. If you've seen the show, you know why I picked this one.

Thoughts from the Media Room: I don't game that much anymore, but that's cool that they recognize the art behind them.
Outstanding Visual Effects in a Video Game Trailer
World of Warcraft
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Star Wars: The Old Republic 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 — Dobby

How to Train Your Dragon — Toothless
Tangled — Rapunzel

Thoughts from the Media Room: I haven't watched any of these, but I'm hoping to catch Megamind this week.
Outstanding Animated Character in a Broadcast Program or Commercial
Citron C3 The Spacebox — Citro
Cadbury — Freida Steer
Prep amd Landing: Operation Secret Santa – Lanny
Logitech — Robot
Thoughts from the Media Room: I'm really starting to think that this Society is based in England.
Outstanding Animated Character in a Video Game
Halo: Reach — Kat
Kinectimals — Cub
StarCraft II — Sarah Kerrigan
Outstanding Effects Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture
Shrek Forever After
How to Train Your Dragon
Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

Thoughts from the Media Room: For the same reasons I gave in the earlier category.
Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture
Iron Man 2 — Stark Expo
TRON: Legacy — Disc Game
Inception — Paris Dreamscape
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time — Sand Room
Thoughts from the Media Room: What a cool category, enjoy this nomination Prince of Persia. I'm sure it'll be the only award you'll be nominated for this year. Except for maybe a Razzie.
Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Broadcast Program
Boardwalk Empire — Boardwalk
The Event – To Keep Us Safe
The Pacific — The Battle of Iwo Jima
Boardwalk Empire – Family Limitation
Thoughts from the Media Room: Everytime I watch Boardwalk I'm always thinking about how cool it would be to live there during that time period. That's the only reason for my pick.
